Symrise, headquartered in Elven, France, introduced a new dry pet food pilot production line on September 13, further enhancing its global standing in the industry. This complements the offerings of its Symrise Pet Food division. The pilot line’s objective is to create high-value nutritional solutions that promote pet health and well-being while meeting consumer demands. It is designed to fulfill internal R&D needs and aid Symrise’s clients in their own pet food production processes.

This line extends comprehensive support to Symrise’s customers, encompassing market insights, R&D, production processes, palatability assessment, and laboratory research. It is engineered for flexibility, allowing customers to explore various production aspects. Through this facility, customers can delve into kibble production and matrix, palatability, and evaluate the effectiveness of Symrise’s formula protection solutions.

Alexis Peuto, the Innovative Technology R&D Manager at Symrise Pet Food, stated, “From an R&D perspective, this new facility brings additional possibilities for our teams. They can directly study the kibble matrix and its production process. This way, they get a full understanding of how our palatability, pet nutrition and pet food solutions interact with kibbles of standard to premium to super premium positionings.”

The pilot line encompasses the entire dry pet food production supply chain, starting from raw material preparation to coating, extrusion, and drying. At each stage, Symrise employs advanced equipment solutions to investigate factors influencing kibble formulas and the overall production process. This initiative is supported by a palatability pilot line and lab studies that delve deeper into formula palatability and protection.

Beyond its extensive R&D capabilities, the new dry pet food pilot line is equipped for larger-scale replication. It serves as a pivotal research tool for pet food processors, providing insights into the use of new ingredients, recipe modifications, and processing conditions. This empowers processors to undertake pet food research endeavors while optimizing time and resources. Additionally, the pilot line extends its capabilities to other co-extruded products, including pet treats.

Through the pilot production line, Symrise also provides customers with a more comprehensive overview of the pet food market. This complements Symrise’s existing expertise in pet food product development and application, which includes insights into pet feeding preferences and behaviors gathered from its Panelis measurement center.

Bertrand de Launay, President of Symrise Pet Food, emphasized, “We now offer the greatest flexibility and instrumentation we know of. Our dry pet food pilot production line forms the final addition to the set of capabilities we offer pet food manufacturers. We are helping them to design future foods for pets that meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
