Almost 200 professionals from the trade and industry sectors participated in the 2023 Pet Congress in Hamburg, organized by the German trade publication “pet” – a record attendance for this popular congress.
The overarching theme of the two-day industry event was “The Pet Industry’s Evolution.” Various companies showcased their recent substantial investments in processes and personnel aimed at creating fresh avenues for growth and solidifying their market presence.
A notable aspect of the pet congress was the presentation of the “pet Best Newcomer 2023” and the “pet Personality of the Year” awards. Prombyx, based in Giessen, Germany, clinched the award for the most innovative newcomer company. CEO Fabiola Neitzel accepted the accolade. Prombyx specializes in sourcing and processing silkworm pupae as a protein source for pet food production, triumphing over three other nominated start-ups in the final round. Another contender, Reset (“gs’hund”), which had also qualified for Hamburg, withdrew its application a few weeks prior.
Volker Haak, the CEO of Trixie, Europe’s premier supplier of pet accessories, received recognition as the “pet Personality of the Year.” The editorial team of the trade magazine “pet” singled him out due to Haak and his company’s exemplary handling of the various challenges brought about by the Corona pandemic and the period following the Ukraine war. They are seen as a testament to the pet industry’s innovative prowess. During his acceptance speech, Haak expressly dedicated the award to his Trixie team, comprising approximately 600 employees.
