The new retailer Petmark was opened by pet food producer Cerere and retailer PDP. With 79 stores, Petmark is the third-biggest chain in Italy.

Both companies want to strengthen their presence in pet food and pet care industry as well as to extend their offline and online reach. After the merger between Maxi Zoo Italia and Agrifarma, the Italian antitrust authority determined that ther merging companies needed to sell 50 to 70 stores so that there could not result in a “dominant position”. Therefore 61 new Petmark stores were purchased from Maxi Zoo Italia, all located in Northern.

The new retailer plans to achieve sales of more than €65 million in 2022. The Schiappapietra family owns Cerere and is in pet food business since 1969. PDP’s stores are located in Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy, and Veneto regions. The company’s goal is to become the “100% Italian retail chain at the service of Italian pet parents.”
