On 4 October, Mondi revealed the new cooperation with the Norwegian pet food producer Felleskjøpet. The Austrian company has invented recyclable packaging for Felleskjøpet’s products aiming to retain material in recycling circulation and to eliminate waste.

The pet food manufacturer uses Mondi’s FlexiBag Recyclable made from polyethylene for its  Appetitt cat and dog food products replacing its own unrecyclable, multi-layer packaging. Mondi’s packaging is made pursuant to CEFLEX D4ACE guidelines so that it can be integrated in the Norwegian plastic recycling streams.

“Our relaunched Appetitt range packed in FlexiBag Recyclable will be available in stores from October,” said Felleskjøpet’s product and development manager Hege Rosenhaug. „ The pet food is delivered in its best condition; it is both protected and kept fresh by the new packaging. This is an important step in our journey towards being a more environmentally responsible organization.”

The FlexiBag Recyclable protects the product and conserves the premium pet fod through high-barrier material. Furthermore, it contains a sliding-closure and a handle. According to Mondi, the great print qualities assures that the products attract the customer’s attention.

“This partnership was all about designing appealing packaging for the Appetitt pet food, meeting the consumer needs of convenience and product protection, as well as helping Felleskjøpet meet its sustainability goals,” stated Pal Wikstrom, sales manager of Nordic consumer flexibles at Mondi. “It meant working together closely and asking all the necessary questions at each stage of the manufacturing process to deliver a solution that works for the customer, the product, the planet — and of course the pets.”

At the ScanPack fair from 4 to 7 October, Mondi has presented its new FlexiBag Recyclable packaging.
