KatKin, the UK cat food manufacturer, has secured a fresh investment from Active Partners, joining its current backers Perwyn, V3 Ventures (Verlinvest), and Octopus Ventures.

The company’s veterinarian-formulated fresh food, cooked gently to retain nutrients and flavor, has successfully delivered over 35 million meals to 200,000 cats since its establishment in 2020. Recently forming a retail alliance with online grocery store Ocado, KatKin aims to utilize the undisclosed funds from Active Partners to fuel expansion in direct-to-consumer channels and retail collaborations.

The focus includes building category awareness for fresh cat food, team expansion, and investment in ongoing product innovation. KatKin’s data reveals a cat population of 11.1 million in the UK alone. With the global cat food market anticipated to surpass $40 billion by 2030, and given the interest of 40% of cat owners in fresh alternatives, traditional pet food offerings, criticized for their reliance on heat-sterilized, low-meat, grain-heavy, and filler-laden products, are perceived as slow to innovate in the eyes of consumers.
