After only 9 months of construction work, Hornbach could celebrate the opening of its 18th store, covering 20,000 m², in the Netherlands (Nijmegen). The also features a drive-in area of more than 4,500 m².

On the company’s own account, it especially watched out on resource-efficent construction methods such as connecting to the district heating system and high damping values for the façade and roof.

“The store has a green roof, which collects water in addition to offering food for insects, acting as a cooling influence in summer and ensuring clean air in the immediate vicinity. This makes our store quite unique throughout the Netherlands,” explains store manager Niels van Essen. The city of Nijmegen is the most populous one in the province of Gelderland.
