Fressnapf has decided to implement permanent price cuts on over 700 items throughout its product range in Germany. Fressnapf-Friends will enjoy an additional five percent discount, applicable both in-store and online.
This strategic move by the pet shop chain is a direct response to the ongoing decline in consumer spending observed in Germany. According to Fressnapf, prices for pet supplies have seen a continuous rise throughout the year, as reported by NielsenIQ. This upward trend may influence consumer sentiment, fostering a inclination to save and, in extreme cases, leading to the relinquishment of pets.
Dr. Johannes Steegmann, CEO of Fressnapf, explains the rationale behind this decision, stating, “The Germans have to save money.” In addition to the already implemented price reductions, the company is actively engaged in negotiations with its suppliers, seeking “sustainable solutions and tailored offers for our customers.”
While the reductions encompass many items from brand suppliers, a substantial portion of them applies to products exclusively available at Fressnapf. In light of these adjustments, Fressnapf has also announced a planned increase in the proportion of exclusive brands. This strategic shift aims to ensure enduringly low prices. The exclusive brand portfolio spans across all price levels, from entry-level to premium.
