According to CEO and co-founder Shannon Falconer in an interview with the platform Brutkasten, the Chicago-based start-up Because Animals aims to build a facility in Vienna next year.

The specialist in laboratory meat hopes to further reduce production costs through the new plant. Currently, the facility is in the planning phase. Around 15 people will be employed in the production plant that will not open until mid next year.

According to Falconer, the new facility will cost around 10 to 13 million US dollars which will be partly financed by 25 million dollars of the currently running Series A investment round. The reason why the company chose Austria is personal. “Firstly, Austria is a wonderful place to live. My partner also already had a job in the region, and we decided spontaneously to move fully to Austria,” she explained.
