Petfoodindustry has released an interesting article on Korea’s pet food imports revealing that South Korea’s pet food imports surged to US$347 million in 2022, led by China, the United States, and Thailand. The report shows that cats outnumbered dogs in 2022, with a 4% projected growth for cats in 2023. Wet cat food, treats, and mixers are expected to drive growth. The U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement eliminates tariffs on U.S. pet food exports. South Korea’s pet food exports hit a record high of US$116 million in 2023, mainly to Japan, Thailand, and Australia. Imports of other pet products also rose, reaching US$291 million in 2022.
