In a recent meeting by the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselhoznadzor, RSN), the head Sergey Dankvert said that „the regulator is ready to propose rules to simplify the clearance of goods“ after official data showed a pet food import decrease of 20%.

Dankvert stated that the RSN has not limited the import of vitamins, the countries itself are responsible of today’s import. Regarding official data, there has been a significant decline of import from Germany (-27%), Denmark and Norway.

Furthermore, the import decline from France, Italy, Hungary and Austria astonishes the head oft he RSN since there has never been a ban of any import from these countries. Therefore, he is willing to compromise permitting new pet food suppliers.

According to Yulia Dolzhenkova from Zooinform in an interview with GlobalPETS, the company conducts conversations with China, Brazil and Argentina.

Kirill Dmitriev from the National Pet Business Association emphasized that it is “absolutely critical” to restart imports.“This would allow importers to increase pet food supply volumes to Russia,” he said.

Additionally, Dimitriev demanded a easier authorization process for new production facilities and countries to avoid shortages and keep enough pet food and food supplements in Russia.
