Mars has introduced the Pets and Wellbeing Study (PAWS), which is set to be the largest long-term research initiative examining how pet ownership affects mental health. Conducted by the Waltham Petcare Science Institute, the study will involve over 35,000 participants across more than 20 countries, gathering scientific data on the human-animal bond. The programme will collaborate with academic institutions and key industry partners to explore the mutual benefits of pet companionship. Dr. Maggie O’Haire from the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine highlighted that the study aims to provide concrete evidence supporting the widely held belief that pets positively impact human wellbeing.
