Mars, Inc. has appointed Alastair Child as its new chief sustainability officer, effective February 3, succeeding Barry Parkin, who is retiring after more than 40 years with the company. Child, currently VP of global sustainability at Mars Snacking, will lead a team of 30 experts to drive the company’s Sustainable in a Generation Plan and Net Zero Roadmap. Mars has already reduced its full value chain greenhouse gas emissions by 16% since 2015, with a goal to halve emissions by 2030 and reach Net Zero by 2050. Child has played a key role in sustainable initiatives, including deforestation-free sourcing and eco-friendly packaging. He emphasized the urgency of climate action, stating that sustainability efforts must continue proving their value to both business and the planet.
