The Interzoo 2022 takes places this week in Nuremberg welcoming representatives of the pet industry in this very hard period for the whole sector. Insiders, though, assume that the price situation will last for quite a long time.

The president of the German Pet Trade & Industry Association (ZZF), Norbert Holthenrick, predicts any raw material used for animsal feed to become“more and more expensive”. Because of the effects oft he pandemic and the war in Ukraine, he confirmed an „uncertain“ future for the industry

“We cannot, yet, predict how the current situation will affect the purchasing behavior of pet owners in the long term,” Holthenrick concluded.

Also, the president of the German Industrial Association of Pet Care Producers (IVH), Georg Müller sees the amount of bad influence on the pet industry. Beginning with a „severe“increase of prices of raw materials, e.g. the price of beef fat is predicted to rise from 145€/100kg in February to 145€/100kg in the next month.

“This is having a huge impact on the production of our industry,” said Müller to journalists. According to him, the industry has to align with this “new cost level”. “With these inflationary forces, we need to make sure we don’t lose customers.”
