The European Commission has approved Bunge Global SA’s acquisition of Viterra Ltd., provided the companies divest Viterra’s oilseed businesses in Hungary and Poland, along with related logistical assets. This decision follows concerns that the merger, as initially proposed, would have reduced competition in the EU markets for oilseeds and related products, particularly in Central Europe. The commission concluded that the divestiture would address these concerns, ensuring market competition is maintained. The merger, which will create one of the world’s largest agribusiness companies, still requires regulatory approval in North America, South America, and China.
