Tebrio, a biotechnology leader specializing in mealworm products, has commenced construction on what it claims will be the world’s largest insect farm in Salamanca, Spain. The 90,000-square-meter facility will produce over 100,000 tons of sustainable products annually, including animal feed proteins, organic biofertilizers, and chitosan for various industries. With a €110 million investment, the plant aims for completion by 2028 and will create 150 direct and 1,350 indirect jobs.
Committed to sustainability, Tebrio’s facility will operate on solar energy, employ a zero-waste model, and maintain a negative carbon footprint, aligning with its B Corp and UN Global Compact commitments. The groundbreaking event, coinciding with Tebrio’s 10th anniversary, highlighted the company’s journey and its focus on global environmental and economic impacts.
