Mars Petcare and EIT Food have named BioscienZ and CREMER Sustainable Nutrition as the winners of their Fiber Valorisation for Pet Food Challenge, an initiative aimed at converting agricultural byproducts into pet food ingredients. BioscienZ specializes in enzymatic liquefaction to transform solid fibrous materials for liquid pet food, while CREMER Sustainable Nutrition enhances plant fiber digestibility through solid-state fermentation. Benoit Buntinx of EIT Food emphasized the importance of innovation in making pet food more sustainable and nutritious. Michael Horan of Mars Petcare highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering a circular economy by collaborating with these innovators. The winners will now conduct proof-of-concept studies, potentially leading to long-term partnerships with Mars Petcare.
