Mars, Inc. is advancing its commitment to net zero emissions by 2050, as its Wodonga pet food facility becomes Australia’s first steam-based manufacturing site to operate entirely on renewable energy by 2025. A $39.3 million solar thermal project, funded in part by ARENA, will equip the site with an 18-megawatt parabolic trough solar thermal plant capable of storing 10 hours of energy. This system will work alongside Mars’ Electric Thermal Energy Storage (eTES) system, which captures off-peak renewable electricity for heat generation. Mars’ renewable initiatives also extend to a partnership with AGIG for renewable gas certificates, complementing their 100% renewable electricity commitment. The Wodonga project is a model for industrial decarbonization and contributes to Mars’ roadmap to halve emissions globally by 2030.
