Since 18 October, UK customers can purchase the new pet treat brand BONKERS at Sainsbury’s, a low-calorie alternative for cats and dogs. The new brand was invented by Rhodes Pet Science which is a subsidiary of The ZURU Group.

The Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association (PFMA) revealed in a study, that pet ownership in the UK has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially among Millennials. Over this time, it has become more important for the pet owners to form a real relationship with their pet. BONKERS shall help to strengthen this bond.

“Millennials and Gen Z are redefining the owner-pet relationship: their pets are more humanized than ever, parented and pampered,” stated had of marketing at BONKERS, Anna Tompkins. “No longer ‘just animals,’ they are fur-babies, integral to the family“.

“Pets bring so much joy to people’s lives, which is why our mantra is ‘better when it’s BONKERS,’” she added. “We want to help pet parents celebrate the unique personalities of their pets and we can’t wait for cats and dogs across the UK to try our delicious treats.”

BONKERS treats were developed with the help of animal nutritionists who ensured the treats are made of high-quality proteins and do not caintain any wheat, soy, artificial colors or flavors. The treats have a crunchy outside and are filled with a gooey inside offering texture and delicious flavours.

The treats for cats which only comprise less than 2 calories each are available in: Salmon Supreme, Paw Lickin’ Chicken, Seafood & Eat It!, Bangin’ Beef and Catnip, Chick ‘N’ Cheddar.

The dog treats have three different tastes Beef Lovers, Chicken Chomps and Bacon Bitties and entail less than 5 calories each.

The prices for BONKERS treats begin at £1.20 ($1.35 USD).
