Innovafeed has received an $11 million grant from the USDA to advance its production of insect-based ingredients for animal and plant nutrition in the U.S. The grant, part of the USDA’s Fertilizer Production Expansion Program, supports Innovafeed’s goal of providing organic, sustainable fertilizer options to American farmers, particularly with its Hilucia™ Frass product, a nutrient-rich fertilizer derived from black soldier fly byproducts. This organic fertilizer, which promotes soil health and carbon sequestration, is already authorized for use in organic farming in Europe and aims to enhance soil biodiversity and crop yields. Innovafeed plans to replicate its successful French production model in the U.S., specifically in Decatur, contributing to the USDA’s mission to support sustainable agriculture and rural economic growth.
