The European Commission has approved the revised Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) for pet food, reinforcing FEDIAF’s commitment to sustainability and transparent environmental assessment. This update ensures a standardized methodology for measuring and improving pet food products’ environmental impact, benefiting both the industry and consumers. The PEF method, developed by experts and validated by the European Commission, evaluates 16 environmental factors, including climate impact and resource use. FEDIAF, representing 15 national pet food associations and major manufacturers, continues to advocate for sustainability and responsible pet ownership. The latest update builds on the PEF pilot phase initiated in 2013 and aligns with the European Commission’s broader green product strategy.
