Due to the war in Ukraine, suppliers need to face further problems, that will probaby affect the supply of goods in the pet sector in the next months.
Especially, the air traffic is heavily affected, since EU banned Russian and Belarusian airplanes from its airspace, e.g. the Russian company Air Bridge Cargo disposed 110 000 tonnes of air freight in 2021. Furthermore, western airlines are barred from entering the Russian airspace which results in an extension of flights to Asia about several hours. Because of that, the aircraft needs to load more kerosene and therefore reduces the loaded freight up to 20 per cent.
Experts do not expect this situation to enhance in the next term. In the long run, they predict Arab airlines taking on Russian air freight capacity on the one hand, and European suppliers extending their fleets on the other hand.
