Cat in a Flat: The two co-founders Kathrin Burckhardt and Julie Barnes can celebrate $1 million monthly GBV (gross booking volume) and their Airbnb for cats service as one of the biggest cat sitting communities in Europe. Beginning in 2015 the platform now contains over 100,000 5-star reviews from 1 million days of cat sitting.
The two founders, owning 84% of their mainly bootstrapped business, achieve to offer the service in 8 countries (UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium and Switzerland), with Germany and the UK being the most popular by far.
Founder Kathrin Burckhardt explains their success: “Cat sitting is a hidden opportunity, over 20% of households across Europe have cats, as many as people who jog. We are the Adidas of the cat sitting world.”
