The fifth annual China International Companion Animal Food Ingredients Conference (CAFIC) was held in Yangzhou last month, featuring representatives from the USDA and FDA who spoke on the successful US-China pet food industry relationship. China’s pet population has risen to over 120 million dogs and cats, with the pet food industry experiencing 10% annual growth over the past five years. The conference highlighted the production of 1.46 million tonnes of dry pet food in 2024 and a $3 billion wet pet food market. Focusing on improving safety, quality, and innovation in pet foods, CAFIC 2024 featured 28 presentations, panels, and a tour of Keshan Pet Food.
